Federal Real Estate Stimulus is Nearing an End Federal stimulus programs created to aid home sales are scheduled to come to an end this year and tougher standards for lending are expected. Appraisal standards for FHA loans will be taking affect on February 15, 2010. The $1.25 trillion program to buy mortgage-backed securities is scheduled to end on March 31st. A minimum down payment increase and stricter underwriting standards for Federal Housing Administration could be in place by April 2010. These are not yet finalized but are expected. The federal income tax rebate program that was extended and enhanced for both new and existing home buyers will expire on June 30, 2010 with the requirement for purchase contracts to be finalized by April 30, 2010. The time is now to act to take advantage of the Federal help in buying your new home.
